What is Poker?

Playing Poker is a game using a deck of 52 cards, played in betting rounds (usually 5 rounds). Players combine their cards into a set and compare the strength of their cards. At large casinos like Las Vegas, Poker betting tables are always crowded with bets ranging up to millions of USD. Nowadays, many online Poker sites regularly organize tournaments worth billions of dollars.

In Vietnam, this game has also appeared in some casinos and online betting sites under the name "xì tố". You should research it carefully before participating because the rules are different from folk games. This game is divided into rounds in order, and each round is very tense. The player's task is to observe the cards dealt and combine them with the community cards to form the strongest combination.

Those who are still standing in the final round will compare their cards. The dealer only calculates the score and accepts bets, pays out according to Poker betting rules. Because it originated from abroad, it was not until recently that it became popular. The game challenges the patience and caution of participants throughout the rounds.

Xì tố first appeared in the United States in the early 19th century. This game was present in traditional casinos, bars, dance halls, and was very popular. The development of the Poker playing form was extremely fast, and by the 20th century, it had become an indispensable entertainment game in America.

Until now, this game is present in all casinos worldwide. In Vietnam, it is also very popular both in online and live play.

In 1970, the first Poker tournament was officially organized under the name World Series of Poker. The most prosperous period when everyone wanted to know how to play Poker was from 2003-2006. Many famous players became millionaires or billionaires by winning tournaments, and they could comfortably make a living from gambling thanks to this card game.

Poker classification

This game is divided into many versions to provide diverse choices for players. You can refer to Texas Hold'em, Razz, Horse, Seven Card Stud, Omaha, etc. However, the most popular one is still Texas Hold'em, which is present in most casinos. I will guide you on how to play this Poker game in the following information. You can apply it whether playing offline or online, it is considered legal.

Simple and easy-to-understand rules of Poker

The game uses a deck of 52 cards, excluding two Jokers, with two to ten people per table. The way to deal Poker is to give each person two cards, called Hole Cards. You need to keep your cards secret and not let your opponents around know.

In the table, there will be one person who has to bet first, called Big Blind, chosen randomly. This person sits to the left of the Dealer, followed by Small Blind placing the second bet.

Location of Big Blind and Small Blind

The person who deals the cards will be transferred from round to round. BB places an amount called Bet, SB will bet an amount equal to half of BB's bet. According to the Poker rules, a game will have four rounds in order: Pre-flop, Flop, Turn, River. After the final round ends, whoever still has cards and has the strongest combination will be the winner. Or if everyone folds their cards, and only one person is left, that person also counts as the winner.

Terms according to Poker rules

When it comes to betting, you must grasp the most common terms used on wagering websites.

These are also words that describe the actions you can take while playing Poker.

  • Bet: means to bet, if you are the first person to bet, it will be called a Bet (usually the Big Blind). People who bet after that have to base on this to propose the amount they want to play.
  • Call: means to follow, if someone has already bet, and you want to bet the same amount as them, use the command Call.
  • Raise: according to the Poker rules, Raise is to raise the bet, for those who want to bet more than the amount the previous person has bet. This is a way for you to put pressure on your opponent, only do it if you really have a good hand.
  • Check: means to check cards, if you are undecided on how to bet, then use this command. You will keep your money from that round and move on to the next round without losing it.
  • All-in: means to bet everything, you put all the money you have into a game with the hope of winning. You should only apply this risky Poker playing style if you really have a strong hand.
  • Fold: at a certain point, if you feel that your cards are too bad and there is no hope of winning, then you should fold.
Orders have been placed in the poker game

Poker Order – Determining Hand Strength

If after four rounds there are still more than one person remaining, the dealer will determine the strength of the hands they hold. This hand is composed of the initial dealt cards and the community cards on the table.

The hand is made up of separate cards and common cards
Specifically, there are 10 hands ranked according to the rules of Poker that you need to understand:

1. Royal Flush

Five leaves make up the Lobby Bin

How to Play Poker - Poker Hand Rankings

After understanding what Poker is, you can learn how to play it correctly. As mentioned before, a game of Poker consists of four betting rounds, and you need to be patient and have a strong mindset to go through them.

1. Pre-flop round - The first round in Poker

In this round, the Big Blind - the player sitting to the left of the Dealer - places the first bet, followed by the Small Blind. The amount of the Big Blind can be any amount, while the Small Blind is always half of the Big Blind.

Big Blind and Small Blind bet first then dealer

After these two players have placed their bets, according to international Poker rules, each player at the table is dealt two cards. The betting order starts from the Small Blind position and proceeds clockwise. If you have a bad hand, you can choose to Fold, but if your hand is decent, you can choose to bet or raise the bet.

2. Flop Round - The round where three community cards are dealt in Poker

At the beginning of the Flop round, the Dealer deals three Community Cards and reveals them.

Three common cards are dealt and turned over on the table

Players then evaluate their two hole cards and compare them to the community cards to see if they can form a hand. If they can, they are allowed to use the community cards to create their hand freely, and any player can do the same.

Regarding betting, if the first player has bet, the next player cannot bet anymore. At this point, the standard way to play Poker is to Call or All-in. The betting round ends when all players have either called or gone all-in.

3. Turn Round - The round where the fourth card is dealt in the game of Poker

In this round, the Dealer continues by dealing another Community Card on the table.

Add a common card to be dealt and opened

Players evaluate their cards and see if they can form a combination with the community cards. At this point, players cannot bet carelessly anymore. Professional Poker players advise new players to calculate carefully.

Think of all the possible hands that can be formed and choose the strongest one. You can lose if you hastily choose a hand in front of you and forget about the long-term benefits. After this betting round, there is still one more round, and another community card is added.

You can choose to Raise if you feel you have a high chance of winning with the cards you have. However, be careful to consider how much you should raise to limit the risk. Experts advise you to double your Raise if you are a beginner.

4. River Round - The round where the fifth card is dealt in the game of Poker

This is the final betting round out of the four rounds of Texas Hold'em and is, therefore, very important. Many people lose in this round because they are not careful, even if they were very confident before. The Dealer starts by dealing the fifth community card according to standard Poker rules.

The last common card is dealt

Players evaluate the newly dealt card and combine it with their hole cards. In this round, players still have the option to Fold if they are not confident. When the fourth betting round ends, all remaining players on the table reveal their hands.

The player with the strongest hand wins, especially if they have a Royal Flush. If multiple players have the same hand, then they compare according to the Poker rules mentioned above.

How to Calculate Money in Standard Poker

All bets made by players on the table will be put into the Pot, regardless of the round. In traditional play, you push chips onto the table, and the Dealer puts them into the Pot.

In online play, you simply click the Bet, Call, or Raise button on the screen. The amount of chips to bet in poker is determined by your initial buy-in, and you can bet more by buying more chips. This action is called Buy-in, and you also need to pay a fee to the house.

Regarding how to calculate the money, the winner will receive all the chips in the Pot. If you were All-in before, you will only win the amount of money calculated at the time you made that bet. Remember the rules for calculating money in Poker so that you can play confidently in the most reputable online casinos without worrying about being cheated.

Conclusion

Playing Poker is quite complex and can be challenging for beginners. This is a game of skill, suitable for those who enjoy calculations and want to increase the challenge when placing bets. You should take the time to study and carefully practice win tips before playing for real. In this game, players need to compete against each other, not relying on luck (if any). Therefore, you should learn about the terminology and betting strategies to win big. Be sure to understand the rules of Poker for each casino to place bets correctly.
